Technology for Children with Special Needs
|
We are fortunate enough to live in a day and age where technology is
really advancing at a fast past. Currently, SmartPhones, iPod Touch,
iPhones and iPads are the hot items on the market that are getting a
lot of attention from therapist, caregivers, parents, teachers and more.
There are literally thousands of apps (applications) on the market that
range from Free to around $200 (or more) that are really opening up the
world to people with special needs of all ages and types.
In our home my husband and I each have an iPhone and our daughter, Emily now has her own iPad. I believe as of today Emily has 150 apps that are dedicated to helping her or her caregivers, therapist and teachers to interact with Emily and for Emily to interact with the world around her. Some of the apps that Emily has that we have found to be useful in the area of communication are: Yes/No HD Sounding Board Adams' Game iCommunicate Pictello Proloquo2Go Word Slapps Color Slapps iTake Turns Going Places Morning Routine Grace ASD Timer |
